Emberwild Saga

★★★★★ 4.6 Editor rating

Emberwild Saga punches well above its download size. You lead a small band of travelers across a hand-drawn continent, recruiting odd companions and untangling a quiet story about a fading forest. The writing is understated in a good way — nobody shouts their backstory at you, it unfolds through little camp conversations.

Combat is turn-based and grid-free, which keeps things readable on a small screen. Positioning still matters because many abilities hit in patterns, so you end up thinking a few moves ahead without getting bogged down in menus. Progression is generous and never nags you to grind.

It's not flawless — the second act drags, and a few side quests feel like padding. But the characters carried me through, and by the end I was genuinely sad to put it down. For a mobile RPG, that's rare.
